Islamic Studies

Michael Cook

In his study on Islamic ethics, Michael Cook researches the religious rules and commands that govern Muslim life and help Muslims avoid wrongdoing. In his study, Cook discusses the Islamic tradition, its values, and the importance of these values today. He often explains these complex topics using anecdotes and stories from Islamic sources, and he describes interesting characters from Islamic history. Professor Cook’s research spans many topics, including pre-Islamic Arabia, Koranic studies, the life of Prophet Muhammad and his companions, Islamic theology, ethics, and law, and the politics of Hindu, Christian, and Islamic fundamentalism. His work is significant not only for its scholarly value, but also because it provides a deeper understanding of Islamic civilization and its peoples. To this end, Cook also wrote a short and accessible introduction to the Koran.
